Greenville's Cherry On The Top After meeting up during open mike nights across Greenville, S.C.’s bar scene, Cherry Dillinger, featuring Jenny Harris (vocals), Tom Bettencourt (electric guitar) and Martin Latham (bass guitar) formed as an acoustic band back in 2006.
After adding Loren Forrester on drums to their outfit, the group caught the attention of ESPN executives in February, during The Bassmaster Classic in Greenville.
By the time they played another B.A.S.S. tournament in Georgia in May, the quartet known for mainly for their cover songs had completed their debut, 9-song album Hooked in less than 45 days.
Obviously made with a fishing theme in mind, Bettencourt said the band did the album pretty much as a “novelty.” But the knowledge they gained about themselves as a band, and the experience producing and readying the record and their own original material, was valuable.
“We were able to go in the studio, establish a song-writing process” and learn how all four of them work together in a studio setting, Bettencourt said.

Country With An Edge by Rob Moore
Outshyne originally formed April 2007 by a group of guys who went to school together, played around campfires together and just plain had fun putting their music out to their fans. Well, it paid off recently for (Waylon Owings-Vocals, Josh Coleman - Guitar, David Mccall - Guitar, Jayson Paxton - Bass Guitar and Matt “Smiley” Norris - Drums) who just completed a solid recording session with WhiteStone Studios. This was a big step for the guys from small-town Laurens, S.C. Their Country-Southern Rock sound will finally have the chance to be heard by fans all over the nation and the world.
The Village Idiot talked with lead singer Waylon Owings to see how things are going and to get some insight on how the recording session went and what to expect in the future. |

Interview with
Jaren Johnston by Rob Moore
American Bang is an explosive band coming to you from the Nashville, TN area and will just plain “Rock your socks off!” They might even put blisters on your feet. Not really, but they do produce a fast-paced rock and roll sound that will get you moving and grooving. Addicting? Yes. Their sound is so energetic you could combine rock and punk and get their sound, but you better have some energy when you see them because they are non-stop and pack “One hell of a punch!”
The band is comprised of four members:Jaren Johnston - vocals, guitar; Ben Brown - guitar; Kelby Ray - bass and Neil Mason - drums. These guys are currently enjoying the holidays before heading back on the road. I had the opportunity, through Warner Brothers, to interview Jaren Johnston. We had a pretty cool conversation that gave some insight into the band.
