Greenville's Cherry On The Top

After meeting up during open mike nights across Greenville, S.C.’s bar scene, Cherry Dillinger, featuring Jenny Harris (vocals), Tom Bettencourt (electric guitar) and Martin Latham (bass guitar) formed as an acoustic band back in 2006.

After adding Loren Forrester on drums to their outfit, the group caught the attention of ESPN executives in February, during The Bassmaster Classic in Greenville.

By the time they played another B.A.S.S. tournament in Georgia in May, the quartet known for mainly for their cover songs had completed their debut, 9-song album Hooked in less than 45 days.

Obviously made with a fishing theme in mind, Bettencourt said the band did the album pretty much as a “novelty.” But the knowledge they gained about themselves as a band, and the experience producing and readying the record and their own original material, was valuable.

“We were able to go in the studio, establish a song-writing process” and learn how all four of them work together in a studio setting, Bettencourt said.
